School Psychologist
The Hillsborough City School District is seeking a part-time 0.50 FTE Probationary School District Psychologist for the remainder of the 24-25 school year and into the 2025-2026 (193 work days)
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Conduct psychological assessment of K-8 students, collaborate and/or consult with parents, teachers, counselors, & administrators concerning students. Participate in IEP team and school site committee meetings. Write required psycho-educational summaries, other reports, and relevant correspondence. Observe due process procedures & right of privacy regarding confidential information. Provide other school psychological services as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct psychoeducational assessments and determine eligibility for special education for students who reside in the District.
2. Consults with teachers and school staff in the development and implementation of classroom methods and procedures to facilitate students’ learning.
3. Consults with parents to assist in understanding the learning and adjustment processes of children and how parents can best help the child at home
4. Serves as a member of IEP teams for initial placement, three-year reevaluations, and change of placements. Acts as administrative designee at IEP meetings on an as-needed basis.
5. Confers with parents regarding evaluation results, cognitive functioning, achievement levels, and social and emotional adjustment and recommends ways of helping students including suggesting appropriate available strategies and resources.
6. Consults with school staff in formulating learning goals and objectives for all students, and development of interventions to facilitate learning.
7. Writes psychoeducational reports that organize information about a student to assist school staff in formulating appropriate plans for education and behavioral management.
8. Assists school staff in the formulation of behavior intervention plans.
9. Provide appropriate in-service training and consultative services to school staff to better understand behavior and learning patterns of students.
10. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
11. Provide counseling and crisis intervention to students as needed.
12. Provides all other psychological services needed and approved by the Director of Student Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Training Experience:
● Pupil Personnel Services Credential – School Psychology
● Master’s Degree in School Psychology or other related fields preferred.
● Strong organizational skills with the experience of balancing multiple tasks at one me
● Outstanding time management skills
● Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills
● Mandarin/Cantonese speaking - Preferred
ABILITY TO:
● Think at both a big picture and detailed level
● Work in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and changing work environment
● Work with general and special education teachers, administrative personnel and classified staff
● Handle stressful situations involving emotional students, staff, and parents
KNOWLEDGE OF:
● Various disabilities in order to identify students who are eligible for special education services
● Wide variety of evaluation and assessment techniques and instruments
● All of the components of an IEP
● Behavior intervention strategies and plans
● Implementation of counseling and/or social skills program for special needs students
● Special education law as it relates to educating students with disabilities
● Curriculum development and adaptation for students with special needs
● Dynamics of individual behavior
● Research methodology
● Community educational resources and related services available to students.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
● Ability to sit for long periods of me;
● Ability to read fine print;
● Ability to operate a computer keyboard;
● Ability to stand, reach, bend, li, kneel and squat;
● Ability to lift up to 20 pounds;
● Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels in the working environment.
HEARING, VISION, SPEECH, and PROCESSING:
Close proximity hearing and clarity of vision near and far with various distance focus/refocus abilities are necessary for these tasks. This job requires a very articulate communicator, as many of the tasks involve a direct conversation with co-workers, staff members, and the public. They must comprehend visual and auditory input given by others. Short and long-term memory recall ability is required in all tasks. This person must be tactual and efficient with all whom they interact with.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
● Department of Justice fingerprint clearance
● Evidence of Tuberculosis clearance
